Hello!
We had a super exciting week!
Monday:
Thank you to Fire Fighter Duncan for arranging a fire engine visit. The kids were all super excited to meet the fire fighters, hear important tips about fire safety, and to get a chance to climb inside the fire engine. While giving the safety talk the kids got to witness the crew being called out to an emergency. We all watched as the crew quickly climbed into the truck and drove away with lights and sirens. Luckily the call was not too serious and they were able to return to the school to show the kids some equipment and the truck.
Tuesday:
The family celebration was a blast! The kids were all so excited to perform for you all and to spend the special time together after. Thank you to all that made it out!
Here is a list of the songs we performed and some links:
Wednesday:
We have another fundraiser happening led by a group of animal enthusiasts. Sparked by the SPCA magazine, this group has been making animal themed bookmarks to sell for a donation. So if you have any spare change around, the kids would love to add to their cause. So far they have raised $33.65. They will be presenting their project to the buddy class and I'm sure they will make some good sales there.
Thursday:
We did a class created retelling of the Jack and the Beanstalk story using yoga and movement. After each child designed their own version of the giants castle and planted a "magic" bean. The kids were happy that we finally planted our beans after our first set became moldy after a long weekend in the dark. Oops!
Friday:
Our class is loving Mo Willems books, so we spent the day reading various stories and learning how to draw some of his famous characters.
We used the Pigeon stories to discuss the difference between needs and wants. The class made a list of things that they need: food, a home, water, clothes, showers and baths, and family. We then had a discussion about how some people need things that maybe others do not. This was a very interesting discussion as one of the pigeon books is about the pigeon wanting a puppy. The students mostly agreed that a dog was a "want", however some students pointed out that some people need dogs for assistance and then going further another student explained how some people need a dog (or any pet) for companionship. This class melts my heart!
For fun, we made covers for Pigeon books that don't exist yet.
