About Ms. Q

I grew up in rural Ontario and I moved with my family out to White Rock when I was in Grade 10. I completed my undergraduate degree at University of Victoria in 2004 and moved to South Korea after graduation to teach English in a Preschool. This experience made me realize that I had a passion for teaching and it was definitely what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. When I returned from Korea I worked as an assistant manager at a Chapters Bookstore while I waited to get into my teaching program. I finished my Bachelor of Education at University of British Columbia in 2007, specializing in teaching through the Arts.
I have taught in Surrey for the past 11 years, most of those in Kindergarten. I finished my Masters of Early Childhood Education from UBC in 2016 and took a leave of absence to work with children in the Amazon. My husband Spencer, our son Max, and I, moved to a town called Tarapoto in the high jungle of Peru. I worked with a few schools to develop and implement a program to teach English through music, movement, and play. While in Peru, I learned a lot about the importance of making connections to our community and our environment.
When I returned from my leave of absence last March, I was able to cover a maternity leave at Rosemary Heights. I immediately connected with the staff, students, and community and felt like I never wanted to leave... lucky for me, I didn't have to. I feel very fortunate to be working in such a wonderful school, with passionate and supportive staff and families. I look forward to getting to know each other over the course of the year.
